The logistics of tomorrow is already being designed today. Sustainability has become a strategic priority, with electric and hydrogen-powered vehicles, biodegradable packaging, route optimization to reduce emissions, and circular supply chains that minimize waste.

Automation will go beyond conveyor belts, with collaborative robots (cobots) working alongside operators, autonomous systems capable of sorting, packing, and loading goods without human intervention, and drones delivering urgent orders to places that once seemed impossible to reach.

Blockchain promises unbreakable and transparent traceability, ensuring that every step of the process is securely recorded—from the origin of raw materials to final delivery. This will be crucial in sectors such as food, pharmaceuticals, and luxury goods, where authenticity and safety are essential.

Artificial intelligence will continue to refine planning. Its algorithms will be able to predict demand spikes weeks in advance, adjust transportation prices in real time, and respond to unforeseen events such as strikes, storms, or sudden changes in international regulations.

At STM Logística, we are already working with this horizon in mind. We are committed to innovation, flexibility, and environmental stewardship so that our clients not only arrive on time but do so more efficiently and responsibly. Because we know that logistics is not just about moving things—it’s about moving the world, and doing so in the right direction if we want to preserve it.

Did you know…?
NASA and several private companies have already tested autonomous drones to transport parts and supplies within simulated space stations. The logistics of the future might just begin… beyond Earth.

Summer is one of the most demanding times of the year for many companies. Consumption patterns change, orders increase in key sectors such as tourism, food, and e-commerce, and high temperatures or staff vacations can affect the usual pace of operations. In this context, having a prepared and flexible logistics partner is not just advisable—it’s essential.

At STM Logística, we know this reality well. With more than 20 years of experience and a customer-focused approach, we adapt to the market’s seasonal needs so our clients can focus on what truly matters: growing their business without interruptions.

Our 4,500 m² logistics platform, strategically located, is fully equipped to provide comprehensive services that go beyond conventional storage. In summer, many products require specific handling such as labeling, assembly, or special conditioning. We manage these processes with agility, precision, and quality control, ensuring that every product is ready for distribution in optimal condition.

In addition, our extensive network of partners across Spain and Portugal allows us to keep the supply chain flowing even during peak activity periods. We know that every minute counts. That’s why our logistics solutions are tailored to each client, with fast, safe, and efficient national and international deliveries.

At STM Logística, we also prioritize full visibility. Our advanced tracking system allows you to know the location and status of every shipment in real time. This transparency not only provides peace of mind but also improves decision-making and strengthens the relationship with the end customer.

Summer should not be an obstacle to logistics operations. On the contrary, when managed well, it can become an opportunity to build loyalty, stand out, and grow. With planning, technology, and a professional team that understands market seasonality, logistics becomes added value.

STM Logística continues to prove that it is possible to offer 360º logistics—agile, secure, and adapted to every time of year. Even in summer.

Warehouse Management Systems (WMS), barcodes, and later RFID enabled precise inventory control. Companies began optimizing every pallet and every cubic meter of their logistics centers. Automation improved speed and reduced human errors, while transportation became more efficient thanks to dynamic route planning and satellite monitoring.

With the rise of e-commerce, logistics had to make a new leap: it was no longer just about moving large volumes between factories and stores but delivering millions of individual packages to the end consumer within increasingly tight deadlines. Thus was born the so-called last mile logistics, a challenge that continues to redefine the sector.

At STM Logística, we are experts in e-commerce solutions. Discover it HERE
Today, logistics is a global and real-time network. Artificial intelligence helps predict demand. The Internet of Things (IoT) allows the tracking of every shipment from origin to destination. And integrated systems facilitate decision-making in seconds.

At STM Logística, we apply these technologies to offer intelligent, flexible, and sustainable solutions. Because we understand that in a digital world, logistics must also be digital.

And this is not the end.
In the next and final chapter of this series, we will explore the future of logistics: sustainability, automation, drones, blockchain, and how innovation will continue to move the world.

Did you know…?
In 2017, Amazon patented a system of floating warehouses operating from airships. Fiction? Maybe. But it is also a demonstration of how logistics innovation now has no physical limits.

The 20th century was marked by conflicts that tested the organizational and mobility capabilities of armies and entire nations. Logistics, which had already evolved during the Industrial Revolution, became a strategic element essential for winning battles and, in many cases, the war itself.

During World War I and World War II, the mass transportation of troops, weapons, food, and medical supplies demanded innovations that forever transformed logistics management. More sophisticated systems emerged to plan routes, store supplies, and coordinate deliveries under extreme and ever-changing conditions.

Roads, ports, and railway networks were integrated into complex supply chains that had to be agile, secure, and adaptable. Technological advances were also driven forward, such as aviation and vehicle mechanization, which expanded the horizons of fast and efficient transport.

Furthermore, communication was perfected through the use of radios and electronic systems that enabled coordination of operations on a global scale, anticipating the interconnected world we live in today.

Did you know…?
During World War II, logistics accounted for up to 60% of the total effort of the Allied forces. The success of operations depended as much on the ability to manufacture weapons as on the skill to move and maintain them on the battlefield.

After the war, these innovations were transferred to the civilian sphere, giving rise to new techniques and technologies that boosted global trade and the globalized economy.

At STM Logística, we continue this tradition of innovation and efficiency to offer solutions that meet today’s challenges. Because in logistics, every detail counts.

In the next chapter, we will explore the digital era and how technology revolutionized transportation and logistics management in the modern world.

At STM Logística, we don’t understand growth without challenge, nor excellence without evolution. That’s why we continue to take steady steps in our continuous improvement strategy, expanding the scope of our ISO 9001 (Quality) and ISO 14001 (Environmental) certifications to include new key activities: ADR freight transport and APQ product storage.

This new milestone marks an important step in our consolidation as a comprehensive logistics operator, capable of offering specialized and safe solutions for sectors that demand a high degree of regulatory and technical compliance. Because at STM Logística, we don’t just transport goods: we manage trust, safety, and responsibility.

Headquartered in the Camporroso Industrial Park in Alcalá de Henares, our team has over 20 years of experience in the sector. A journey built on solid pillars: professional integrity, customer commitment, and a strong dedication to quality as a competitive tool.

Our quality and environmental policy is part of the company’s DNA. Thanks to this approach, we achieved certification of our new Alcalá facility under the most demanding international standards in record time. Today, we reinforce that commitment by adding critical activities to our Integrated Management System, demonstrating that dynamism, adaptability, and the drive for improvement are hallmarks of STM Logística.

In addition to ISO certifications, we hold Food Sanitary Registration and licenses as a logistics and transport operator, allowing us to offer 360º coverage in logistics services, from warehousing to distribution.

We continue working with our eyes on the future, without losing sight of what matters most: being a useful, reliable company that respects its environment.

Because moving well means doing so with quality. And with commitment.

At STM Logística, we believe that logistics is not just about efficiency and transportation, but also about social commitment. That’s why, when the ADELIAS Foundation reached out to us for help with a solidarity shipment, we didn’t hesitate for a second.

ADELIAS had received a very special donation from the Mango store in Barcelona: eight boxes of baby clothes intended for families in vulnerable situations in the Community of Madrid. This contribution represents a small but significant relief for many families going through difficult times, and we are proud to have been part of the journey to ensure it reaches those who need it.

Our role was to provide free transportation from Barcelona to Madrid, helping this aid arrive on time and in perfect condition. We know that behind every box there’s a story, a specific need, and above all, hope. It moves us to know that thanks to this gesture, some babies will now have access to the basics—and perhaps even a bit of joy.

Collaborating with organizations like the ADELIAS Foundation is part of our commitment as a responsible company. We are grateful for the trust placed in us and value the opportunity to make a difference beyond our daily operations.

At STM Logística, we reaffirm our commitment to solidarity, to childhood, and to human dignity. We will continue to support initiatives that help build a fairer, more humane, and more compassionate world.

Because delivering hope is also part of our route.

For further information about the great work of this Foundation, we’re sharing a link to their website: www://fundacionadelias.org

Logistics is not a modern invention. While today we associate it with packages, automated warehouses, or e-commerce platforms, its roots reach deep into the earliest chapters of human history. At its core, logistics is the art of moving resources where they are needed, when they are needed, and in the most efficient way possible.

The word logistics comes from the Greek logistikos, and was later adopted by the Romans with a clearly military application. In the Roman legions, the logista was responsible for managing supplies, transportation, roads, and camps. Without logistics, no empire could stand.

Even earlier, civilizations such as the Egyptians had already developed advanced transportation and storage systems —moving massive stone blocks to build the pyramids or managing crops along the Nile. The Phoenicians, meanwhile, were pioneers in maritime logistics, establishing trade routes that connected the entire Mediterranean.

For centuries, logistics adapted to caravans, pilgrimage routes, and commercial travel. The Silk Road, the Way of St. James, or Marco Polo’s expeditions all relied on complex systems of provisioning and planning—though they weren’t called “logistics” back then.

It wasn’t until the 19th century that modern armies began using the term logistics to describe the organization of transport, supply chains, and troop support. In 1917, the U.S. Army was the first to give it an official definition.

Did you know?
Napoleon Bonaparte famously said, “An army marches on its stomach,” acknowledging the critical role of logistics in any military campaign.

This is just the beginning. In the next chapters, we’ll explore the industrial revolution, the arrival of the railway, the impact of the world wars, the birth of the shipping container… and the rise of the digital age.

STM Logística already has a warehouse for chemical products, so part of its facilities at PI Camporroso in Alcalá de Henares have been able to accommodate this type of product since January.

STM Logística had applied to the Community of Madrid for the corresponding license, dated December 27, 2024. A few days ago it received the communication from the Ministry of Economy, Finance and Employment, authorizing it, with the registration number APQ 3700.

Therefore, and after the works, updates and improvements made in recent months, the APQ warehouse of STM Logística, complies with the RD 656/2017 (APQ Regulation), which establishes rigorous safety standards.

For this young company – although its members have extensive experience in the sector – this is a milestone that will mark a before and after in its development.

In order to obtain the APQ certification, STM Logística has invested heavily, first in an engineering project that defined the necessary improvements, and then in their installation.

Basically, the facilities have been prepared to meet the necessary requirements for the storage and handling of products corresponding to the fertilizer sector.

Continuing with the history of e-Commerce, it can be said that in 1991, the Internet was officially opened for commercial use, which marked the beginning of an exponential growth in the use of e-commerce.

The first online purchase is believed to have been made in 1994, when a buyer purchased a Sting CD from the NetMarket website.

In 1994, Jeff Bezos founded Amazon as an online bookstore. Over time, Amazon expanded its product offerings and became one of the world’s largest online retailers.

In 1995, Pierre Omidyar launched eBay, an online auction platform that allowed users to buy and sell products directly.

These companies were instrumental in popularising e-commerce and demonstrating its potential on a global scale.

In electronic payments, PayPal was founded in 1998, facilitating secure and affordable online payments for consumers and small businesses. PayPal played a key role in building consumer confidence in online shopping.

The consolidation and diversification of e-Commerce took place between 2000 and 2010.

In the early years of the 21st century, e-commerce continued to expand rapidly. Companies improved their online platforms, and consumers began to rely more on online shopping.

Physical retailers began to see the value of online sales and many launched their own e-commerce platforms. Walmart, Best Buy and other large chains began to offer their products via the web.

In 2006 Shopify appeared, a platform that allowed small and medium-sized businesses to easily create and manage online shops. Shopify democratised access to e-commerce for entrepreneurs.

Between 2010 and 2020 came the mobile and omni-channel era. With the rise of smartphones and mobile apps, e-commerce became more accessible and convenient.

With the growth of smartphones, online shopping moved to mobile devices. Apps from retailers such as Amazon, eBay and physical shops allowed consumers to shop on the go.

Retailers also began to integrate their physical and online experiences, creating an omni-channel shopping experience. This included the ability to buy online and collect in shop (click and collect) or cross-channel returns.

The pandemic accelerated the growth of e-commerce, as many people turned to online shopping due to mobility restrictions and the temporary closure of physical shops. Companies such as Amazon, Walmart and Alibaba saw an unprecedented surge in demand.

New business models, such as same-day or one-hour delivery, became more common thanks to services such as Instacart, Amazon Prime and Uber Eats.

The integration of commerce with social media (such as Instagram and TikTok) has allowed consumers to buy products directly through these platforms. With the growth of environmental awareness, many e-Commerce companies have adopted more sustainable practices, using recyclable packaging and promoting eco-friendly products.

E-commerce continues to evolve rapidly with emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI), augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR) and blockchain. These technologies promise to transform the online shopping experience, making it more personalised, interactive and secure.

E-commerce has come a long way from its beginnings in the 1960s to become a fundamental part of the global economy.

Technology remains a key factor in its development, and innovations are expected to continue to drive its growth in the coming years.

The other, however, is undoubtedly logistics. How do all those orders get to our homes? We will continue to talk about it.
